Longville Park is the best neighbourhood
Friday, 27 February 2009

Source: Jamaica Gleaner

More than 70 neighbourhoods competed for the National Housing Trust's (NHT) Best Scheme award, now in its 14th year, with top prize going to Longville Park in Clarendon.

Over the period of one year, communities vie in four areas: culture, health, education and environment.

Longville won $1 million in cash, while Angels Grove in St Catherine emerged second, with $700,000, and Glenco in St Elizabeth and Blackwood Gardens in St Catherine, tied for third and got $500,000 each.

Wendy-Jo Williams, NHT's social development manager, said some of the communities developed products that were sent to the Scientific Research Council to ensure that they met quality standards, before placing them on the market.

The communities were advised on the execution of their projects by the Ministry of Health, Rural Agricultural Development Authority, National Environment and Planning Agency, and Jamaica Cultural Development Commission.
